The Propeller Club, Port of Galveston, awarded a check for $10,000 to the Galveston Seafarers Center at its 2nd annual Seafarers Center Holiday Dinner Meeting sponsored by Texas International Terminals. This award was made possible due to the generosity of our monthly sponsors and the dedicated members of our club. The event was a sell out, with an attendance of over 200!
Dinner was prepared by Marios on the Seawall Catering. We want to thank the Seafarers Center Board for preparing the desserts for the dinner, Five and Two Marketing and everyone else who participated to make this a huge success. We also were able to donate a sizeable number of toys from our members to the Blue Santa Christmas Toy Drive. We look forward to seeing everyone at the 3rd annual Holiday Dinner in December 2024.
We thank our members and sponsors for a very successful 2023 and look forward to doing better in 2024.
Our next meeting will be a Rib-Eye Steak Dinner prepared by the Propeller Club Board and sponsored by HomeTown Bank on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, and always at the KC Hall, 1912 Winnie Street in Galveston, unless otherwise notified.

WE WOULD LIKE TO OFFER OUR SINCERE APPRECIATION TO OUR SPONSORS AND MEMBERSHIP

We could not have accomplished it without our dedicated membership, sponsors, and guidance from all of our past and present officers and board members. We wish to thank all of our sponsors over the past 20 years, most of whom have supported us over that time at many of our functions over this period.

A History of Service - Since 1922

The Propeller Club, Port of Galveston presented a donation of $5,000 to the Galveston Seafarers Center at its October 20, 2021 dinner meeting.

Pictured at the presentation are Albert Choate, Galveston Seafarers Center Board & Propeller Club Officer, H.L. "Bubba" Smith, Past President, Propeller Club, Jim Lewis, Galveston Seafarers Center Manager and Eddie Janek, President, Propeller Club, Port of Galveston.

The Propeller Club was conceived in 1922 as an ever-growing group of maritime professionals who met informally each day over lunch to discuss issues of the industry. As the group became too large for casual conversation, speakers began to be invited to address the group. Growth continued, and in January of 1923 the “Propeller Club of the Port of New York” was formed, with thirty-three in attendance choosing the name and scheduling regular meetings.

The membership comprises a cross-section of the maritime industry throughout the United States and in many cities overseas. The Propeller Club is particularly well equipped to promote, further, and support the merchant marine. “Propeller” in the name refers to the propulsion of ships and is symbolic of the driving force required to communicate the need for an adequate, privately-owned merchant marine for both overseas and domestic commerce.

Today, the International Propeller Club of the United States is an international business network dedicated to the promotion of the maritime industry, commerce, and global trade. There are more than 80 ports in maritime cities around the world, including almost 30 in foreign cities.

The Propeller Club - Port of Galveston awarded $12,000 in scholarships in 2020 to a selected group of maritime students at Texas A&M Maritime Academy Galveston
